PRACTICE  

Juniors U8 to U14

Baseball practice is every week on a Tuesday and Thursday from 17h30 to 18h30 for all teams. Players are to try to be there 15 minutes before 
the start, so they can warm up. Any clothing may be worn to practice, but they must wear their boots. Don’t forget the mitt and cap!  
(the reason they practice with their cap on, is so they get used to looking up for a ball with the peak of the cap possibly obstructing part of their vision)

Seniors

Under 16’s practice with the Major B or Promotion’s teams, but still pay the same fees as the Junior Players do.

Baseball practice is every week on a Wednesday from 18h00 to 19h00 and Saturday from 09h00 to 11h00. Once again, players are to try 
and be there 15 minutes before the start of practice.

 GAMES

There is usually a game every weekend, but the venues do change and your team manager will let you know the day, time and place of the game.

• Please ensure that you get your child to the respective field an hour before the start of the game so as to allow the coaches to get their team ready.
• Below you will find a list of the different club addresses.
•  Rain: If it is raining please phone your team manager to find out if games/practice is cancelled, please do not make an assumption, as often it is not raining at the club/venue! Do this 2 hrs before the start of the event.
•  Your child must attend practice or they will not be playing games, dedication and commitment is important, and this is one of the selection criteria for teams
• The Pledge:  Before every game the children will line up on the field and recite the baseball pledge.  This is important to them and it is asked that all parents around the field also stand up while this takes place.  The whole team must know the pledge so included in your registration pack you will find a laminated copy of the pledge, please help your child memorize this.
• The Dug-out: During the game, all players are to remain together in the dug-out with their team manager.  Please do not allow your child to run back and forth to you. Parents are to organize that the players take all the drinks that they require for the duration of the game, into the dugout at the start of the game. Remember we live in scorching hot Durban and the last thing we want is children passing out during a match because of dehydration. No food is allowed in the dug-out., so you need to make sure that they have eaten before the game starts.
•  Parents Conduct:  A good spirit around the field is always welcomed but please do not make rude remarks and get upset next to the field, as this rubs off on the children. Parents may not interfere with any decisions made by the umpires.  If there are any problems during the game the coach will deal with it, if you are still unhappy speak to the coach after the game or at practice. The parents should sit on the outfield side of either 1 or 3 base. The KZN Baseball Code of Conduct prohibits the use of alcohol on the side of the field, and we request our Ashley parents to abide with this rule.  The umpire has the right to ask an unruly parent to leave the field for the remainder of the game.
• Players Conduct: Players are expected to behave on and off the field. They represent Ashley Club at all times. Rudeness towards team members, other teams and officials will not be tolerated. The coach is responsible for how the children behave on the field and can send a child off the field if he/she feels the child is behaving in an unsportsmanlike manner,  i.e. throwing his bat after a decision made by an umpire, etc.  The umpire can also send a child off.
• Player dedication: Please plan your weekends so that the children/ players attend all the games. If there are less than 9 players, the team forfeits the game and everyone can not play. Please ensure that your child does not let the team down. Once your child has registered he/she needs to be committed!  If you can not make the game for what ever reason, please let your team manager know well in advance.

REGISTRATION

All baseball players must register every season, and the fee for Junior Baseball for the 2009/2010 season is R300.00 per player.  Player’s registration forms and monies need to be in by the1st of October 2009.  If it is your child’s first season playing, you also need to include a copy of their birth certificate.  If your child is not registered, and fees not paid up by this date, they will unfortunately not be able to play.  Christene Nyland is the Ashley registrar, and will be handling all monies and registration forms.

HOSTING

Every season Ashley has two hostings.  This is always a good (and possibly our only) fundraiser for us, so we ask all parents to make sure that you assist us for a couple of hours on those weekends, to help cooking and selling in the kitchen! A roster is set up to ensure all age groups help out and you don’t miss your child’s game, e.g. U10 parents on duty whilst U8 game is played, and vice versa..  Lots of hands make light work, and a lot of fun is had by all who assist us – it’s a great way to get to know each other! The money raised goes towards Ashley Baseball for additional kit, etc, i.e. the kids benefit from these funds raised.
